Religious leaders, politicians, business people and residents gathered today, Saturday , to pay their final respects to Canon Eric Mararo Buregyeya, who was laid to rest in Rukarara, Kanungu District.
The burial brought together leaders and mourners from different sections, who gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the late Rev. Eric.
Among those who attended were Kinkiizi West MP James Kaberuka, Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Dr. Gad Rugaju, former Kinkiizi West parliamentary candidate Christopher Safari and former Kanungu Woman MP Jacqeline Kyatuheire, who also serves as deputy national treasurer.
Also present were Kanungu District LC5 Chairperson Hon Francis Byamukama, Kihihi Town Council Mayor Rogers, former LC5 candidate Rev. Tibesigwa Justus , Kanungu District Education Officer Shaban, among other political, religious and community leaders.
Speaking at the burial, LC5 Chairperson highlighted some of the district’s development priorities, including plans to upgrade Kihihi Health Centre IV.
He also spoke about road development and other projects aimed at improving service delivery across the district.
Kinkiizi West MP James Kaberuka described Rev. Eric as a respected member of the community who had made a big contribution to the area.
Kaberuka remembered him as one of the early wealthy people in the area and praised his close relationship with people.
He also recalled Bulegyeya’s active lifestyle, particularly his love for cycling.
The Bishop of Kinkiizi Diocese, who led the burial service, praised Rev Eric Mararo Buregyeya for his contribution to the growth of the church.
The bishop said Buregyeya was among the people whose efforts contributed to the establishment of Kinkiizi Diocese.
