Parents and guardians in Kanungu District have been urged to take advantage of a nationwide free mass immunisation campaign against measles and rubella scheduled for Oct. 1 to Oct. 5, 2026.
The campaign, organised as part of efforts to protect children against vaccine-preventable diseases, targets all children aged 9 months to 59 months.
The Uganda Red Cross Society is encouraging parents and guardians to take eligible children to the nearest health facilities or designated vaccination posts established by the district during the five-day exercise.
The Red Cross says the campaign provides an opportunity for communities to ensure that young children receive protection against measles and rubella, which can cause serious illness among children.
Parents and guardians have therefore been urged not to miss the vaccination exercise and to seek information from health workers about the designated vaccination points in their communities.
The campaign is being promoted alongside public health preparedness activities being conducted by the Uganda Red Cross Society in partnership with UNICEF.
In Kanungu, the two organisations are also conducting orientation meetings with various stakeholders on preparedness and prevention of Ebola.
The meetings are aimed at increasing awareness and encouraging communities to remain vigilant and observe recommended standard operating procedures, despite Uganda currently being Ebola-free.
Red Cross is also using its community engagement activities to promote awareness about disease prevention and the importance of seeking reliable health information from health authorities.
The organisation has called on parents, guardians, community leaders and other stakeholders in Kanungu to support the measles and rubella vaccination campaign by ensuring that all eligible children are reached during the exercise.
